Issn 1845–8319 an Estimate of Chromospheric Heating by Acoustic Waves
نویسندگان
چکیده
Several mechanisms may heat the solar chromosphere: acoustic waves, magnetoacoustic waves (slow, fast, and Alfvén waves), and small-scale magnetic reconnections. Based on observations in the Ca II 854.2 nm line, the contribution of acoustic waves to the heating of quiet and plage regions in the chromosphere is discussed. The energy released by radiative losses is compared with the energy deposited by acoustic waves. Radiative losses are computed using a grid of six semi-empirical models VAL A–F. The deposited acoustic flux is calculated using power spectra of Doppler oscillations measured in the Ca II line core. The comparison shows that the spatial correlation of maps of radiative losses and acoustic flux is 70 %. The deposited acoustic flux provides at least 25–30 % of the energy radiated in the quiet chromosphere and 50 % in plage regions.

Issn 1845–8319 Fractal Dimension Analysis of Solar Granulation- Boxcounting Dimension
The fractal dimension of high resolution Hinode solar granulation observations and numerical simulations is studied and the results are compared. These observations are not influenced by atmospheric seeing conditions and therefore allow a more realistic estimate of the fractal dimension than in previous works. Though arriving at similar results for observations and simulation data, non integer ...

We present recent results from observations of binary and multiple systems made with the Navy Precision Optical Interferometer (NPOI) on ζ and σ Orionis A, ξ Tauri, HR 6493, and b Persei. We explain how the orbital modeling is performed and show that even triple systems can be constrained with the data.

Cutting-edge observations with the 1.6-meter telescope at Big Bear Solar Observatory (BBSO) in California have taken research into the activity of the Sun to new levels of understanding of the structure and evolution of the solar atmosphere at high-resolution spatial and temporal scales. On August 7, 2013 the NST observed active region NOAA 11810 in photospheric and chromospheric wavelengths. T...
متن کاملOn Heating of Solar Corona and Acceleration of Low-Speed Solar Wind by Acoustic Waves Generated in Corona
We investigate possibilities of solar coronal heating by acoustic waves generated not at the photosphere but in the corona, aiming at heating in the midto low-latitude corona where the low-speed wind is expected to come from. Acoustic waves of period τ ∼ 100s are triggered by chromospheric reconnection, one model of small scale magnetic reconnection events recently proposed by Sturrock. These w...
